How we examine your eyes
We understand that your eyes are unique
A comprehensive eye examination at Leightons Opticians takes around half an hour by one of our friendly, fully qualified Optometrists. We will tailor the examination to your eyes specific needs, during which our Optometrists will assess all aspects of your ocular health and your eyesight requirements. We don't perform just quick eye tests. Every eye examination is unique, although many parts are common for all:
A relaxed, confidential, in depth discussion with the Optometrist of your current eyesight requirements, and other health and lifestyle issues which may be relevant.
An assessment of any current spectacles you may be using and their suitability.
Assessment of your eyesight - how well you can see with and without spectacles? Optometrists use the 'Letter chart' (which is familiar to most people). It has letters of different sizes, and is used to give a score of how well you can see.
The Optometrist use lenses of different strengths to determine if your eyesight can be improved with glasses or contact lenses.
The Optometrist will ensure you can see clearly at all distances; far distance, intermediate (VDU), and reading. Including any specific occupational or leisure requirements.
Assessment of your ocular health - We will check the internal and external parts of your eyes with a bright light to make sure they are healthy and operating normally. Many health issues such as Cataracts, Diabetes, or Hypertension can affect the eyes without you realising. The Optometrist will be able to recognise any changes occurring.
Assessment of how well your eyes work together - This may be done different ways. Often using the 'OXO' test or using special lens filters and 3D tests.
