Hearing Protection

Exposure to certain kinds of noise can permanently damage your hearing

When a person is over-exposed to excessive sound levels, sensitive structures of the inner ear can be damaged. This can result in permanent, noise-induced hearing loss.

Examples of loud sounds that can cause noise-induced hearing loss:

  • Motorcycle/hair dryer/lawn mower 85-90dB
  • Wood shop/chainsaw/firecrackers 100-110dB
  • Rock concerts/night club 110-125dB
  • Pneumatic drill/jet engine at take-off 119-140dB

Hearing loss caused by exposure to recreational and occupational noise may be accompanied by tinnitus, a ringing or buzzing in the ears and is virtually 100% preventable. Anything that reduces the level of sound will help prevent damage to your hearing.

Protect your hearing from loud or sustained noise

Leightons HearingCare has a range of ear protection plugs designed to protect your hearing in noisy environments. They are available in foam, rubber, silicone or wax.

Suitable for shorter exposure periods, the Elacin ER20 has been specially designed to reduce ambient noise whilst allowing the sound to be heard quieter but not muffled; perfect for driving, flying, clubbing and motor sport spectators.

Custom-fitted plugs offer the best hearing protection and are ideal for musicians, DJs or people who are exposed to prolonged periods of loud noise or music.

Custom-fit ear plugs are tailored from impressions of the customer’s ears. Made from a soft silicone material, these plugs ensure a very effective fit and can be worn comfortably for long periods. They can be fitted with filters which deal with different types of noise and achieve specific levels of protection.
