Reading Glasses

We have reading glasses to suit all styles and
budgets, so you can be assured that Leightons
Opticians has the perfect solution for you. From 13
years old, ours eyes start losing the ability to change power to
focus on nearer objects. This doesn't become apparent to us until
we reach 40-50 years of age when most people will find they start
to need additional help for reading at close distances. An eye test at
Leightons Opticians will help identify what, if any,
type of reading glasses you need.
Reading glasses can be set to all different
distances depending on your individual lifestyle, for example
people who play musical instruments or use VDU screens will require
a weaker strength in their reading Spectacles than
someone who likes to read small print at a close range.
It is not recommended to use "Ready Readers" for
long periods as eye strain and headaches are a common side effect,
they do however work well as an emergency back-up.
Ready Readers are as they suggest and just meant
for help with close work not long distance, but will only help if
your long distance vision is good. Unlike off the peg Ready
Readers that you can buy, prescription reading
glasses are more than just a set of magnifying lenses set
into a frame. Most people's eyes vary slightly between the right
and the left. Prescription reading glasses are
individual to each eye, with the optical centre of the lenses set
up in just the right place to avoid eyestrain and/or double vision
and to obtain the best vision for each eye.
When you come in for your eye test we will ask about your lifestyle and
hobbies so that we can ensure the perfect setup for you.
